kill shelters really got a bad rep from misinformation. most kill shelters are county run, meaning they have to take in every dog they receive. do you know what non kill shelters do when they’re at full capacity? they turn away dogs, letting them starve to death on the streets because they don’t take in strays. at least kill shelters give the animals a chance and a painless, humane death.

lets not forget the shelters and rescues demand you basically make 6 figures and live on a ranch with 6ft tall fences and that at least 1 person is home 24hours a day.

i dont feel any particular way about pits, but when are we going to accept that very few ppl want/can adopt these dogs and just stop breeding them. shelters are overflowing with shitbull mixes

I used to foster and I have stories. An Akita who had SEVERE child and cat aggression and ended up biting me in the jaw after getting spooked by a car horn, a Beagle who was terrified of EVERYTHING from grass to cars to water bottles, a Dachshund with a HORRIBLE skin condition on her hind end that took months of treatment to fix and left her unable to hold her urine due to prolonged infections. A LOT of animals that end up in shelters have pasts of abuse, poor health or lack of socialization and people should not be shamed for not wanting that in their family pet.

Also when you what a specific dog based based on your lifestyle and knowing that only really a specific breed would work for you you kinda need to adopt. I rarely ever see Jack Russels in shelters

nothing to do with pet stores. that's cuz of puppy mills. its because many folks rent and nearly every complex have pits banned. Hell they banned even mixes!

trying to force the "moral obligation" to adopt a shelter dog which is 99.9% of the pit a pit bull is ignorance. all pitbull, pit mix dogs have one thing in common. all breeds that fall into the classification of "put" are terriers which are high energy dogs and also usually large. my 70 year old FIL DOES NOT need a 90 pound ball of energy. he would be better off with a 10 pound lap warmer. my aunt who is wheelchair bound DOES NOT need a 70 pound Duracell dog. she needs a medium sized low energy dog that thrives in low energy homes

I have noticed, anecdotally at least, that rural areas tend to have better availability of different and desirable dogs to own vs the urban shelters strictly having dogs that are a mix of at least one banned breed

people need to understand that not wanting a certain type of dog doesn't make you a bad person. my brother owns a pitty, and he's a sweetie, but I would never want one for so many reasons, just as well as many other breeds. stop saying people don't deserve pets for not taking on an animal they don't feel comfortable with.
