When I was a child I didn't know my biological father. My parents (step dad who I only think of as my dad) moved to the opposite end of the state we lived in.
When I was 16 I was put in touch with my biological fathers dad (my grandfather) and we built a relationship, and I met my uncles over the course of the following years even though they lived in the capital city on the other side of the state, and I met my biological father a handful of times before I had children but then lost contact.
I had my first baby when I was 28, and my grandfather died when I was 29. I had my uncles as friends on Facebook.
When my daughter was 6 we moved to a tiny town an hour away from the capital city. She started school and made a best friend.
Two years later my uncle had a baby and invited me to her Christening. The night before the event my daughter slept over at her best friends house for the first time, and thrn I picked her up, and we drove 1.5 hours to the opposite side of the capital city to attend this Christening.
While we were there I saw my biological father and said hello, he didn't recognise me because it had been so long since I had last seen him. Eventually he worked out who I was, and he and his wife came to talk to my husband and I. His wife asked where we lived, and when I told her she told me her daughter lived there.
Yup. I had just picked my daughter up from her daughters house. My daughter was best friends with her "step" cousin. It was shocking at first, but it opened up the doors to me having a relationship with my biological father and his wife.
