Don't listen to this person. Find yourself an older person at work that is respected and gets things done, and be friends with them. They've been there, done that. They'll tell you who to stay away from, what jobs to go after or not and when to speak up or keep your head down. They know where the bodies are buried. And because they're respected, they can vouch for you when you need it. There is no substitute for experience.
