Bare nails, hands in the dirt. Not a trend… a reset. I’m actually a fancy gal myself but here’s what sent me down this rabbit hole and why I choose to keep my nails bare. 👇 A Duke study found that within about 10–14 hours of painting their nails, every woman tested had a nail-polish chemical called TPHP showing up in her body… a suspected endocrine disruptor, meaning it can interfere with hormones. And here’s the part that surprised me: it wasn’t absorbing through the nail. It was through the skin around it, during application. TPHP is listed in more than half the polishes on the market. Then there’s gel. A 2023 UC San Diego study put human cells under the UV lamps used to cure gel manicures… the same category of UV as a tanning bed and found DNA damage and cancer-linked mutations after exposure. The researcher who led it swore off gel manicures after seeing her own results. It’s lab data, not a final verdict, but that reaction says something. And that’s before you get to the physical part: constant gel and acrylic thins your actual nail every removal, which quietly builds the “I NEED the overlay, my nails are so weak” cycle. The overlay is often what started it. The endocrine piece hits different when you’re already paying attention to your hormones and “always covered” was a default sold to us, not one our bodies signed up for. So every so often: bare. Sun. Dirt. Let them be seen. Would you go a week? #WellnessForWomen #wellnessjourney #guthealth #midlifewellness #hormonebalance
