@protonguy: Earlier this week, The Cancer Project discussed Immunotherapy, a cancer treatment that uses the body’s immune system to find and fight cancerous cells. Host David Raubach explained there are several types of immunotherapy including CAR T-cell therapy. CAR T-cell therapy begins with a blood draw that is then taken to a lab where the T cells are separated out and given a receptor called CAR. The modified cells are then multiplied by large quantities to be infused back into the patient. Now, the infused CAR T-cells have been specially trained to identify and attack the cancer cells!CAR T-cell therapy is primarily used to treat blood cancers such as lymphomas, leukemias, and multiple myeloma.
