My daughter is definitely a person who doesn’t want to be the center of attention. They’re only having a dozen guests total. Just immediate family.

My sister did a private ceremony the day before and then had a party at home the next day for family. She hates being the center of attention, so it was perfect for her.

In lieu of first dance, “gift” it to an important couple. Parents, grandparents, longest married couple, newest married couple, whomever.

My first marriage was just him and I with an officiant. Small party later. Second marriage with both sets of parents in our dining room🤣🤣 family surprised us with a small family gathering

I did a destination wedding in Vegas. Invited 30 family and close friends. Invited tons of other people to our virtual wedding (it was televised live by the event space). My husband and I walked down the aisle together as my parents were also not comfortable with being in front of everyone. Our reception was dinner and cake. The only speech was mine thanking everyone for coming. We sat at a round table with the guests. We didn’t have dancing but instead went to a variety comedy act in the same Vegas resort. The entertainers wished us well but didn’t make it uncomfortable.

This was me and my husband. Planned it in 3 weeks. Got married in my mother-in-law‘s house with close friends and family and then had a big dinner/reception. Still had favors, centerpieces, flowers, still had music, but nothing to showy and we were all very comfortable.

girl, run away 💀 no, like literally. pick 10 people who are truly close and go on a vacation together. most resorts will do all the leg work for you and you can surprise the ones you love, who would take a vacation with you when asked, and celebrate your love with them. the pictures are gorgeous, the pressure is off, it is so easy to plan a resort wedding and you get to be married to your best friend in the end with a special place you can go back to at the 5, 10, 15 etc year mark. 💜

I was the MOH for a very introverted couple. I made sure they had their meal in peace and a moment alone before toasts. It helped them regulate.

I threw up before my ceremony I was so nervous about being the center of attention. Once I was up there, I felt a little better.

How about a courthouse wedding and then a big party/reception that doesn’t have formality about.

Good advice. Also have a small wedding and a few days later have a cook out and celebrate then with a big group of people.

I once attended a wedding that was intimate and more like a catered dinner party with background music than a wedding. It was fantastic ❣️

I did ALL this. We had 40 people at a B&B in VT & it was gorgeous! My Mum got the wedding she dreamed of & my wife & I got the intimate non-traditional gay wedding we wanted.

my sister had 13 guests. the reception happened in my parents living room with a snack table & chatting. the guests list was my mom & stepdad, one of my aunts & her husband, my dad's parents, my stepdad dad's mom, oldest sister & her partner, me, my little sister, 2 close family friends (both have done Christmas with us at least once) & one of their partners. My brother in laws family couldn't make the international trip but was video called in & his mom had a much bigger party to celebrate. its also ok to not invite people you dont want to. she didn't invite my moms parents, most of our aunts & uncles, dad, stepmom & brother (mostly cuz he lived with dad).

Have you had any experiences with free wedding venues where the wedding has to be on a weekday (Mon-Thus) but is completely free? Like the Chapel Dulcinea in Austin, TX.

My husband didn’t want all that. We did a very micro wedding with only family then a little larger dinner with only our super close friends included in that.

Kind of on the same topic, but what do I do if I completely hate dancing? It’s not even that I’m bad at it (which I am lol) I just don’t enjoy it and neither does my partner. What else can we do to keep our guest entertained? My partner loves singing but karaoke seems a little bit much, thoughts?

THIS!!!!! I am pretty sure my SO wants to be married, but wants NOTHING to do with a wedding. He is a serious introvert. And I don’t care one way or the other, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to “let me down.”

See I ended up having a courthouse wedding bc I knew my husband and I would definitely end up hiding from everyone because we would be done with people so quickly

I hate being the center of attention. We skipped speeches during the reception and the tinking of glasses for kissing. We did our first dance and father daughter dances right in a row and had the people who meant the world to us at the tables surrounding the dance floor so everyone else just faded into the background. It really helped. His family is loud and overwhelming so I stayed with my low key friends and when I was overwhelmed I stole him and our photographer for random photo breaks. We also had a ceremony that no phones or iPads etc were allowed, our photographers was given permission to ask anyone who had their phone out to leave.

My cousin had a completely private ceremony - the two of them, their parents and her sister. That was it. At 10 am. Then they had close friends and family waiting at a small brunch reception. It was perfect for her. (I also think a brunch-time wedding filled with mimosas and bloody Marys along with yummy brunch foods would be so much fun and leave the entire day to celebrate!)
