My 7w old started to not sleep at all at night. He would be awake or wake up every 30 mins from 11pm-7am 5 days in a row. I think he is falling asleep at the boob at night not getting a full feed. I’ve tried to do pre-post feed weighs but he wiggles so much I have a hard time getting an accurate weigh in. I’ve tried all the tricks to keep him awake and nothing seems to work :( when I gave him a bottle he slept for 2.5 hours. I’m exhausted but really want him to nurse at night and don’t know what to do! He doesn’t have this issue during daytime

I did a weighted feed today (with a nurse so im not sure how accurate) and my 3 week old got 2.5 oz on one side and .5 on the other and the nurse made it seem like that’s an acceptable amount for now but not “sustainable in the long run” because baby will “need more and that amount will only satisfy her for maybe an hour in the future” this has made me so incredibly anxious

I went to a lactation consultant today and she weighed my son before feeding and then weighed him after and he ate about 3 ounces and under 10 minutes, but then she goes and tells me that he may be only eating for milk and not hence milk which I don’t really understand the difference, but what could I do to make him eat the hands milk cause she was saying that that’s better for him so what am I doing? Exactly what do I do?

💯 thank you!! I wish they looked at the whole picture instead of stressing out moms more. My baby went for a weighted feed and she was not that hungry, cause at the time was also cluster feeding so she had just ate. At the end of the feed she said I need to triple feed cause she didn’t pull “enough” in 20 minutes 😭 but all the other signs were there: she’s gaining weight, has enough wet and poopy diapers, and is satisfied after feeds.

I alternate breasts each feed, my 2 week old newborn eats 20 minutes on right side but only 10 minutes on left. I use a nipple shield on left due to flat nipple. He seems satisfied after but unsure if this is common?

Love this. Do you ever get concerned about gaining too much/too fast? Not weighing baby between visits, but he gained ~66g/day from his newborn visit to a lactation visit at 3 weeks old and always thought 15-30g is the expectation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I was lucky enough to have knowledgeable doctors and nurses around when I breastfed both my kids but I see so many new moms without that and so much misinformation spread online instead of new moms being able to trust their bodies to continue to nourish their babies after birth.
