At 43, I had become completely fed up with myself. I was three years out from my divorce, a single mom, and not living the life I had envisioned for myself. I had come face-to-face with everything I had buried my entire life. I had lost myself so completely and was carrying so much anger and resentment, and I was having a hard time letting any of it go. But deep down, I knew there was so much more to me so I quite literally decided one day to become the best version of myself possible. Here’s what I did ⬇️ 1. I quit drinking. Drinking was holding me back from literally everything. It was the number one thing I used to avoid holding myself accountable. I knew that if I wanted my life to change, it had to be the first thing to go. 2. I worked on my mindset. I read countless self-help books. I learned how to stop dwelling on the past and started creating a clear vision for my future. Once I could see who I wanted to become and what I wanted my life to look like, I began taking small steps in that direction. 3. I completely changed the way I ate. At the time, I was fortunate to be mentored by an obesity-medicine specialist who helped me rethink everything I believed about nutrition. I thought I had it all figured out by eating a very low-fat, low-calorie diet. But it wasn’t until I began prioritizing protein, healthy fats and whole foods, reducing simple carbohydrates and incorporating intermittent fasting into my lifestyle that I started seeing real changes in my body. I had always been active. Exercise was never the missing piece for me. Changing my nutrition was. 4. I started doing things scared. I stopped waiting to feel ready and became willing to face rejection, hurt, embarrassment and failure. I put myself out here on social media, even though it terrified me. I stopped hiding from the life I wanted and started moving toward it. More importantly I took small steps, remained consistent and trusted the process.
