A vacancy tax would also help. We need to change the math on keeping "assets", I mean properties, vacant. We don't build things to sit empty as an investment, we build them to be used.

A town I grew up in, they have an old hospital revamped and sitting empty for over 10 years now because they want a million bucks an apartment. GUARANTEE it’s haunted too.

pass a law about paying rent for a certain number of l years qualifies you for a mortgage if the same value, and that regulates the fuck out of companies like blackrock

Well of course there are homeless people. Capitalism cannot survive if everyone is equal and comfortable.

The only way to survive and actually live in today’s world is to have generational wealth or to live so frugal and save every extra penny that still gets taxed

A big issue is also that homeowners will fight affordable housing anywhere near them in the interest of their own property values. They might not generally be against affordable housing but they just don’t want it affecting their own property value

the average income in my town is 98k, making that much means you could afford a house for ~280k. there are like 5 different neighborhoods being built starting in the 700ks. who tf can afford that

I opted out. I liquidated the contents of my rental house and now I’m a full time nomadic housesitter. I bounce around and live in other people’s beautiful homes. I’m saving $30k/year on rent and utilities - it was $2300/month in WA. I have never been happier!!!

china basically crashed their own housing market fixing this but now there’s like 95% home ownership throughout the country. housing shouldn’t be a financial asset
