A vacancy tax would also help. We need to change the math on keeping "assets", I mean properties, vacant. We don't build things to sit empty as an investment, we build them to be used.

A big issue is also that homeowners will fight affordable housing anywhere near them in the interest of their own property values. They might not generally be against affordable housing but they just don’t want it affecting their own property value

in china you own your house not the bank and not the goverment! so when you are done paying for your house its yours. no you dont need to pay anything more than what the house is worth

the average income in my town is 98k, making that much means you could afford a house for ~280k. there are like 5 different neighborhoods being built starting in the 700ks. who tf can afford that

I opted out. I liquidated the contents of my rental house and now I’m a full time nomadic housesitter. I bounce around and live in other people’s beautiful homes. I’m saving $30k/year on rent and utilities - it was $2300/month in WA. I have never been happier!!!
