@norfolkbotanicalgarden: What if a plant had superpowers? Well, many do! Meet 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙞. 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙪𝙢 stores water in its thick trunk to survive long dry seasons. But that's not its only survival superpower. Most of the time, it makes food just like other plants. When water becomes scarce, though, it switches to a second type of photosynthesis. Instead of taking in carbon dioxide during the hot daytime, it waits until nighttime when the air is cooler. This clever adaptation helps it conserve precious water while continuing to grow.
