I’m learning Vietnamese and saying English words with a Vietnamese accents sounds so bad. My tutor is always telling me people aren’t going to understand if I don’t put on the accent.

Cognates are honestly the hardest for me when speaking Korean haha. My brain just always wants to default to the English pronunciation. So saying stuff like “스무디“ makes my head spin 😂😂. I’m at the cafe going “딸기 smoothie 하나 주세요.”

As an American, I’ve just come to accept I will sound racist to the American ear when I speak konglish 🤷🏻♀️but guess what, I can speak decent 한국어 sooo I’m pretty sure I’m in the green. I also know that because /i/ struggle with identify some konglish bc it’s said differently than in English just a tiny bit, it must be the same the other way around. I can’t just say coffee at a cafe and expect them to know what I said (esp small local ones in non tourist areas) I gotta say 커피 주세요!

I just do it because I have to do the same in English if that makes sense because and I had to find this out the hard way people otherwise won’t understand what u mean so I change my pronunciation to the English one and it works the same in Korean doesn’t it?

Maybe because I’m from Quebec but I read the word many time and it don’t feel bad at all 🤔??? I can understand for 네가 since people can pronounce Né like Ni and then it sound bad in English XD but the other word I don’t understand :(
