@vanjones68: History was made in the Democratic Party last week. Abdul El-Sayed has become the first Muslim candidate ever to win a Democratic Senate primary. I remember how overjoyed I was the day Barack Obama secured our party’s nomination for the presidency of the United States. For young Arab and Muslim Americans watching those numbers come in — this is one of the biggest moments of their political lives. That is worth celebrating fully. We can debate politics later. For those of us who did not support his candidacy, it’s ESPECIALLY important for us to simply acknowledge the historic nature of this achievement. A first like this doesn't happen by accident. It happens because a generation decided to fight for a seat at the table instead of waiting for an invitation. That’s democracy in action. That’s the American way.
