The first thing I was taught by elder Black southern organizers is not to alienate people with my words or try to convert them using academic language. We sat in circle and talked about our experiences. Bearing witness used to be an essential part of building community. Now leftists just want to pontificate and sh*t on people's self-esteem. Like, why are these folks who call themselves advocates calling people stupid and just telling them to read before listening to them? I'm genuinely worried about the state of organizing.

i think i’m smart but so are all of my friends and my community. they’ve taught me so much, and it’s so cool that they know about topics that i don’t. being able to talk to each other and learn from each other is one of my favorite things. wdym someone is teaching me how to forage in new mexico!? i love my comrades

I think refusal to admit that some people were born with something going on and they'll never be particularly smart is self defeating. We often say Zuckerberg, Bezos and Gates are rich because they're smart. clearly we could have a discussion about that but, differences in smartness do not justify economic inequality. some people will never get smart, no matter how hard they try, they still deserve a decent life. they don't deserve to be on the miserable side of the economic inequality divide.

this why I've always hated the idea of "dumbing down". like bro they can and usually do see that shit isn't fair, that there is something wrong with how our society works. not everyone went down the same information pipeline or to school, that doesn't make them stupid, they just didn't have the same access to info you did for whatever the reasons. and as a leftist who is a "dumb uneducated" person who works among those same people, it's so frustrating cause that crowd is already so keyed into anti-intellectualism that they will stop listening the moment they feel like it's condescending
