We focus a lot on how much water we drink… but what the water is packaged in matters too. After more than a decade working in oncology, these are bottled waters I personally avoid using regularly: • Topo Chico – has tested among the higher sparkling waters for PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in independent testing • Dasani & Aquafina – mass-produced waters commonly packaged in very soft plastic, a major source of microplastics • Nestlé Pure Life – variable transparency across testing and almost always packaged in thin plastic • generic grocery store brands in thin plastic bottles – widest variability in quality and often exposed to heat in transit or storage The worry is not the occasional bottle. The concern is cumulative exposure over years to: • PFAS • microplastics • plasticizers and endocrine-disrupting chemicals • chemicals that leach more when bottles sit in heat (cars, garages, warehouses) If bottled water is the only option (travel, events, emergencies), “better” choices can include: • glass-bottled waters such as Mountain Valley or Saratoga • brands that publish PFAS testing results • packaging in glass or stainless, not soft plastic But the best option overall: • avoid routine bottled water when possible • use home filtration (reverse osmosis or solid carbon block, depending on needs) • drink from glass or stainless steel reusable bottles This isn’t about fear or perfection. It’s about reducing everyday exposures in simple, realistic ways. If you want a step-by-step framework for lowering cancer risk through practical daily choices, you can find The Minimalist Method at the link in my bio. Education only, not personal medical advice.
