I’m no longer on antidepressants but my cow is to deal with all of the trauma I’ve gone through and the chemical imbalance in my brain. That is a genetic disposition along with the fact that I have a bunch of genetic conditions and I’m chronically and can’t do anything, so sorry, I’m a little bit depressed.

While I agree that the cow example is great medical help it misses the point of depression. There is a difference between "this thing happened and I feel bad about it" and "for no environmental reason I am stuck constantly being in a state of severe sadness even when things are objectively going well". Its true that there is an over prescription for the former, but that doesn't mean the latter doesn't exist.

I mean, yes. However, clinical depression is real. The only way I can explain it is. Your brain tells you that you're sad, regardless of the world around you—a constant load to carry.

Just clarify one point. Cambodia was never at war with the USA. America dropped millions of tonnes of bombs and chemicals on Cambodia thinking that Vietnamese freedom fighters were there.

There’s an old book called the social cause of mental illness, lots of examples of how indigenous people have historically had a low incidence due to protective factors, community met needs 👌

okay so, this is partly true, if your life sucks, and your sad and you fix the suck and you stop being sad, congrats you fixed the issue, however some people do have a genetic hormonal imbalance that causes depression
