I started going 2,000’ higher than everyone in the area simply because I can. Everyone in my area goes to 7,500 and I go to 9,500 and I don’t encounter anyone up there even though I’m keeping eyes out.

Be the one to take initiative is good advice. So many students let the airplane fly them instead of them flying the airplane

I just completed my long cross country solo. On another one, I had to take the initiative to do a 180 because I accidentally turned the radio volume down and couldnt hear the tower confirmation to enter the Delta 😂

I had very good CFI’s who were all business, articulate, and never second-guessed a single word they said, as I recall. I found that helpful.

I have to ask what happened before…. The only reason I ever used this tone with my students when I was a CFI is because they messed something up really bad 🤷♂️
