WestboundBand :
[Intro]
Saturday night.
East L.A.
Wrong corner.
Wrong time.
[Verse 1]
Two crews shouting by the liquor store,
Old words turning into something more,
Bottles breaking, everybody backed away,
Just another Saturday in East L.A.
Then I saw a kid, maybe twelve years old,
Frozen by the wall with nowhere left to go.
I grabbed his shoulder, pulled him out of sight,
Said, “Come on, kid. We’re getting food tonight.”
[Pre-Chorus]
He looked at me like, “Who the hell are you?”
I laughed and said,
“Man… I’m hungry too.”
[Verse 2]
Two tacos each at a little place nearby,
Hot sauce burning, kid was laughing at me cry.
I ordered one beer, he ordered Mexican Coke,
Five minutes later we were trading jokes.
Then through the window he could see my ride,
And an old wood guitar strapped along the side.
He stopped mid-sentence, pointed through the glass:
“Mister…
Can I play that?”
[Break]
I said,
“You play?”
“A little.”
