@adeche.atelier: Starting the series with one of our favourite folktales: The Legend of Wagadou 🧡 We love this story so much that we actually created a painting of the moment Maadi is about to strike Bida…so much drama in one scene 🤩 Fun fact: The word ghana means warrior or war chief and was the title given to the rulers of the kingdom. When the Gold Coast gained independence in 1957 under Kwame Nkrumah, the new nation was given the name Ghana, inspired by the legacy of the ancient empire. If you want to go deeper, we’ll be exploring the history of Wagadou and the cultural context behind the legend over on our Substack 🫶🏾✨ Had you heard this story before, or do you know a slightly different version? #storytelling #folklore #africanhistory #africanmythology
I love how it's very similar to the stories you see in Greek mythology and it makes you wonder if there is some sort of connection

i thought that this was a fun detail! he was both selfish and heroic imo. on one end no one had to be sacraficed anymore on the other, the people had to suffer. tho if you think about it. there was still suffering from the people who were sacraficed

I’ve read and researched about this story and I’ve always thought this story is Muslim propaganda to demonize local practices 😭 evil snakes/dragons eating virgins is a very Abrahamic religions type of story 💀
