one of my issues with dnfing, is when you get 80% in and quit, like just finish it tf (yes ive seen this happen a few times)

I usually read a sample if available and decide if I want to give it a fair shot cause I’m a super picky reader.

I feel the same way too sometimes when I see people doing the TBR jar/wheel videos (which I love watching) and every single time they re-pull/re-spin because they don’t want to read what they get, or they’ll read it but they don’t want to read it so they DNF it early on or just drag the book in their review and rate it low. I completely understand some people are mood readers, but then maybe the random pulls/spins just are not for you…because at this point you’re just lowkey dragging every book you’re picking up. I have a TBR jar and I have some books I acquired over the years. If I pull a book and my immediate response is “I have no desire to read this anymore”, I give it away to someone who will or put it in a LFL for someone else to enjoy. I’m not gonna hold onto it just for the sake of having it or force myself to even start it if I have zero interest in it when I pull it. I’d rather let it go to someone who wants it than read something I’m not interested in and give it a low rating, DNF it, or tell people publicly how much I don’t want to read it. It’s one thing when it happens on occasion but when it’s every single one it just starts to seem a little rude and just for the sake of content.

Sometimes 4 pages is all I need. I once dnf’d an audiobook 8 minutes in and when I went to the reviews, all of the issues I had within those 8 minutes were stated by multiple people.

Agreed! My personal rule is I always give a book at least one full chapter for each POV before deciding if I’m going to DNF. unless there is something that I missed in trigger warnings and I just can’t read about it

Idk man, my quickest DNF is within the first three pages, but I rarely dnf and read across all genres. Also those are content creators, creating content with the goal of driving engagement. For all we know, they already read the whole thing, loved it, but know people are going to argue in the comments of that post.

I feel the same when people ask “is this book worth reading?!” Reading is subjective and one persons 5 star book maybe some one else’s 3 star.

I have the tendency to hate finish a book, especially if I've sunk a good amount of time into it, but I am slowly teaching myself that it's okay to put a book down and come back to it later.

The one that gets me is “DNF’d at 89%” like… it’s right there. You’re so close. But that’s me. I almost never DNF because I may be a huge hater but I’m an INFORMED hater
