Drivers and walkers across Wales are being warned to keep their hands, and anything else to themselves, as a new batch of “No Sheep Shagging” signs is set to appear across Welsh hills and mountains over the coming weeks. The unusual red circular signs depict a man standing suspiciously close behind a sheep, accompanied by a bold prohibition symbol. Officials say the signs are being introduced following what has been described as an “unexpected increase in summer interspecies romance” across popular rural areas. The signs will reportedly be installed near mountain roads, footpaths and particularly sheep-heavy locations, where authorities fear the warm weather may be encouraging some visitors to become “overly affectionate” towards the local livestock. The Highway Code is also expected to be updated to include the new signs, although officials have yet to confirm whether the accompanying guidance will simply say “DON’T” in very large letters. A spokesperson said: “Most people come to Wales to enjoy the scenery, walk the mountains and take photographs of sheep. We would like to remind everyone that the sheep are here for the scenery too.” Anyone witnessing suspected human-sheep shenanigans is being encouraged to report the incident to South Wales Police via 101. Authorities have also reminded the public: “Look, but don’t touch.”
