Hello! Firstly I absolutely love your content and relate heavily as a 29 year old pursuing a career in Academia. What advice would you give to someone who was raised bilingual (Meine Mama wurde in Salzburg geboren und hat dort gelebt, bis sie kurz vor meiner Geburt nach Australien gezogen ist) except I speak at the level of a 10 year old in terms of vocabulary etc. I can read and watch German films without translation and subtitles (e.g. I study philosophy and read the original often) but I cannot hold a conversation in German with another adult. Do you have any tips for this? Perhaps it is a confidence thing?

I’ve been learning German since January. I feel pretty good at how far I’ve come but I struggle to speak. I can watch a German movie with German subtitles and follow along quite well, but ask me to speak and I just freeze! Any tips?

I know very little Spanish, but my pronunciation is so good growing up around native speakers that whenever I use my little Spanish with a native speaker they just start speaking to me automatically because my accent makes it seem like I’m fluent 😅 but I want to actually be fluent. goals.

You always have the most fascinating content! This hits my interests, because I took Latin for 4 years and some Italian, then taught myself Spanish and French. I’m not fluent, but I can understand well enough. I learned a bit of Russian (my husband and friends speak some Russian) and I’ve been teaching myself Finnish since February. It’s kicking my ass, but now I can understand it pretty well 😅 MUSIC in another language is super helpful!
