All Russian actions western liberals proclaim as "imperialist" are just done out of pure existential necessity against western Imperialism. Imperialism isn't defined by actions themselves but by larger geopolitical motives behind them.

Leftists in the U.S. think they’re just as radical as the rest of the world because they want free healthcare or support Palestine, but they go to the RIGHT of history’s most ambitious Cold Warriors like Henry Kissinger, George HW Bush, and George Kennan when it comes to NATO and Russia. I am not exaggerating that by the way. Henry Kissinger said ceding territory to Russia would be the best solution in 2022; George HEW Bush said we should dismantle NATO unless they found something else to do (which they did in Yugoslavia, though that was after his presidency), and George Kennan said keeping NATO around and messing with Ukraine would be a “fateful error.” Most importantly, keeping tensions with Russia would cost them the socialist dream they are trying to build; just ask the USSR .
