Gratuity is and has been automatic for as long as I have waited tables. Since the late 1990s on tables of 8 or more.

That's something I really don't understand in the US. A waiter should have a full salary, tips shouldn't be part of it, just extra. Same with taxes. All prices should have the taxes included. In France, it's illegal as it is hidden price.

As a person in the service industry, we have people refute their credit card charges for things that are stated in their contracts and every single time they lose the dispute. We have not lost one dispute yet because it was stated in the contract and they signed the contract. Reading and signing is one thing you can make changes then. But if you don’t read and then sign you were bound by the contract.
