Sadly they permanently closed the 2 we had in Gafanha do Carmo.. times are changing. I remember going there with my mom, aunt and grandma to wash clothes..

There was annoutdoor one in my village when I was young in Portugal. I used to often sit on a nearby rock wall and watch the women washbthwir clothes or fetch water from yhe public fountain to carry in their heads back to their houses. It was inly mid-1980s in Minho...not really that long ago. Thete were still some houses without running water or electricity. Sometimes, I am still surprised by how far Portugal has come within a lifetime.

I’ve been meaning to go see it since I saw it on someone’s YT video a while back. I’m a pretty strong broad, but I don’t know if I will ever be as strong as the women who washed their clothes there.

20 years ago I saw women washing clothes on a rock in the local stream. They probably would have thought this was luxury.
