I really love how strong and smart Tingyun is. She was the one who cleared her own name (i’m not overlooking zhao’s contribution, but she was the one who came up with the entire plan from the start) and, of course, she also set Zhao on a new path in life Even in the midst of all those challenges, she realized she needed to change her perspective on life because life reality out there was different It’s really nice to see women taking center stage in the series instead of a male-dominated cast

YES!! I totally agree. I’ll take it further to say that in these new dramas especially, we miss the DEVELOPMENT arcs. For example, the smart/cunning FMC is really popular right now. Off the bat, she always has to be cold and stern, and intelligent straight away. We see less “silly” moments or her just being momentarily stupid, meanwhile the men can have a full flex of emotions and range if that makes sense?? I wish FMC had the depth and development that male characters had without erasing their overall character in modern dramas; in older dramas like Ruyi you can see her development very clearly. but then again also these dramas are shorter lol
