There is a difference between nuanced and no real conquences for their actions, most of the characters you showed received conquences (iron man literally gets captured by terrorists and spends the entire rest of his life making up for ultron in signing the accords) idc about the other comics my understanding is that the phoenix is usually another entity doing that bad stuff, jean grey is herself and simply chooses to try to kill innocents and gets away with it, something EVERYONE ELSE get punished for, Thor being another example and nothing happens to her that’s not nuance that’s just the movie not punishing her for being wrong

Mind you, these people loved Loki from the start and he was a thousands year old man who wanted power. Jean is a teenager who is discovering her powers while in a state of fearing for her only family's life.

I think they did introduce Jean too evil, but I only really have a problem with it because she's being setup as a big character going forward. I didn't really care when it was Sentry or Wanda, because they are not as prominent as someone like Iron Man who I hated from his first movie until Endgame. Granted, I can understand him and Jean, but that dosen't mean I will like them.

Thanks for this. Jean is not exactly a paragon of purity in the comics, Phoenix influence or not, and that’s AFTER having Xavier mentor her. (Or maybe BECAUSE of in hindsight?) A young teenage girl who had no stable parental figure and with powers she can barely control lashes out and crosses several lines? Sounds perfectly on brand to me.

My problem is that: you’re right, X-men has some of the best and most nuanced characterizations in marvel. And this is not Jean’s. If this was swapped to be young Charles instead of young Jean, I’d equally have a problem with it. Jean’s entire character is rooted in her empathy; it’s the bedrock of her character.

It’s not just about the x-men. It’s about the double standards for male vs female characters, because Loki can have a redemption arc after desecrating New York but if a female character presents any nuance all bets are off.

Of course people don’t like her doing such an evil act. The problem is it’s never addressed. Why wouldn’t Spider-Man say to her, that guy you threw in front of a taxi probably also had a brother or sister who loved him? Without her facing that it’s cheap movie thrills and out of character.
