Therapist here! This is standard practice. If not 60% of our patients would have to be sectioned and there are zero beds as it is. If you disagree with this start advocating for changes on a macro level for insurance, hospitalization and MH and PN funding!!

This is standard protocol for risk assessment. Suicidal ideation is quite common and not at all a direct indicator of suicide attempt.

Guys lots of people have chronic passive thoughts of suicide. This is different from active suicidal thoughts which include intent and or plan

the issue is that we don't have any protocol for people experiencing si other than locking them up if they meet certain criteria. we need harm reduction and support.

You cannot commit everyone with suicidal ideation. The numbers would be huge with little benefit. It’s a very difficult thing to deal with.

Patients will not usually get admitted for inpatient care unless they have a plan or intent to actually do it. Otherwise they will be given resources to outpatient care.
