Why wait for someone to give you a job to do IT? Start solving the small inconveniences in your life with tech and showcase it, get involved with the community (as your friend is already doing)

I had an interview Friday and they told me in more words than this they were hiring for personality fit and I seemed to fit, no reason not to hire me when asked, told them salary of 40 to 60k, it was an hourly position but haven't heard back. on paper said L1 and L2 helpdesk tasks but I have no company exp in houston area did I ask for too much or what?

With the credentials that were listed and zero experience in the field, it’s going to be difficult. That said the jobs he should be looking for would be SOC1 or possibly something in GRC. People need to realize security isn’t an entry level job, you need IT experience. If possible look for a HD Role to get your foot in the door and then buddy up with the Security guys.

there are 3 types of business: those that know what they need and do it, those that know what they need and outsource it, and those that don't know at all. It's a balance of selling vs experience; you can get far on the latter but it's the former that closes the gap
