She said her mom is controlling & they dont have a good relationship. So why should it go to mom?

completely disagree. her mother is clearly controlling and doesn't respect her choices or independence. she's 30, not 17. her friends around her are her chosen family, and they will let her celebrate her moment. mom would ruin the day, bringing up moving again and all their other garbage.

It sounds like she doesn't have a very good relationship with her mother. It makes more sense for her to have her friends there. I have a feeling her mom's presence would cause her stress on what should be a day of celebration.

OP is heartless. So her mum raised her until she finished high school which means her mum looked after her for 18yrs- 19yrs. Sometimes single mothers are a bit controlling and can go overboard to protect you so you don’t make the same mistakes they’ve made, I can understand her wanting her best friend there but not having your own mother at your graduation is unacceptable. Because when shit hit the fan all your friends will not be there and OP and her mother should go and talk to a professional to help mend their relationship

Its OPs graduation and her choice. The mom is controlling and they arent close. Also mom would be mad bc her new man and kid wont be able to come. OP needs to keep her graduation a happy day not a drama fest

Her choice, but just prepare for the relationship to be fractured further. Best friend can take one, mom the other. Step sister and step dad don’t need an invite.

There is no need to force issues if OP and Mum don’t have a solid relationship, she should follow her heart and stick with her friends and just be honest with Mum.

They do sell extra tickets on the day, so if she did want them to attend it would be possible

As a single mother of one, I would be offended and very sad if my daughter did that to me. We are not in each other's pockets, we talk once a month, she has been independent since 18, two degrees, and we have a good relationship. Its respectful to be included in important events in her life, over her friends. never mind hubby and sibling, bt ME. yes.
