@brightblackhoney: The funniest part of the tradwife fantasy is pretending this was ever women’s “natural state.” You’re romanticizing an era when women were being prescribed tranquilizers for their nerves, amphetamines for energy and weight loss, and sleeping pills to come down at night. You want the little dress, the bread from scratch, the spotless kitchen, to be the smiling wife waiting at the door. Baby, where are her tranquilizers? The original tradwife wasn’t proof that women are naturally fulfilled by submission. She was often exhausted, anxious, overworked, under-stimulated and expected to remain pleasant through all of it. You cannot use the performance as proof that the role was natural while conveniently deleting everything women were given to help them survive performing it. If this was her natural state, why did surviving it so often mean being medicated into oblivion? #vintagevalues #tradwife #greenscreen #conservativevalues #traditionalfamily

My mother’s mother, my grandma, had a caboodle box like a tacklebox filled and filled with uppers downers and Inbetweeners. She was a traditional pharm wife

The hill I'll die on: the "wine mom" is just the 21st century version of the mid-century housewife with her women's tonic

Don’t forget lobotomies! ”my wife isn’t behaving how I’d like. Maybe drilling an ice pick through her head will fix it!” 😭

The book The Feminine Mystique blew my mind regarding this. Those women were high AF and fighting for their lives.

And why did they need to be medicated? Bc their husbands were ABUSIVE, and they were TRAPPED ASF.

50s and 60s housewives had maids, often black women, so they weren’t even doing all that work. What stress did they have because I’m sure they put that on the maid: emotional damage. degrading and physical labor

not to mention, the primary method of "disciplining" children was to beat the hell out of them, and things going on in the family were NEVER spoken about. my grandparents lived through this era, I saw how it affected them as adults and later, parents.

Maybe it’s my neurodivergence, but I don’t get how people don’t already know the whole 50’s era is a myth? I remember arguing with my mom about social activism and how the 50’s myth is oppressive to women and Black people. She just screamed at me that I couldn’t understand because I wasn’t there. Mind you, this woman experienced all the things that should’ve radicalized her way more than me. But nope! There she was defending the very ideals that put her through hell. I guess patriarchy really is that motherfcker!

It was literally all propaganda. The movies were depicting what they wanted women to act like not like they actually acted.
