I’m a manager. I’ve never once asked for a doctor’s note. Trust your people and they’ll give you reasons to trust them.

In Ireland doctors write “medical reasons” and that’s it - it’s nobody’s business what illness you have - mental, flu, contagious.. can’t work that’s it. The US is insane

In the UK you are allowed to self certify your sickness. It is illegal for them to ask for a doctors note in the first 7 days and most doctors would just refuse to do it anyway.

As a previous manager, I never needed a note. I trusted my team. I also made sure that I clocked them in and out so that they got paid even though we had no actual sick leave. I did the same for their birthdays.
And, you know what? I never once felt as though anyone took advantage of it. Ever.

I'm a manager, have been for a long time. I have never asked for a doctor's note. If you tell me you're sick, I will take it at face value. If you're lying to me, that's in your concsience, not on mine.

Hey George. I work for a company that offers ZERO sick days. A FOOD MANUFACTURING company. Calling out for illness will result in a point EVEN with a doctor's note. Youre required by policy to show up sick, inform your supervisor that you are sick, and then you are de-crewed with no pay and a point. 👍 Million follar company btw.

I once had a manager tell me I had to bring in a doctors note to be able to not work that day, it had to be paper form. I threw up on the note and gave it to them.

If manager ever tried this, my very next message would be my resignation. I'm not a child, don't treat me like one. If I say I am sick, that's all you need to know. Anything beyond that is a courtesy.
