For my ex’s 30th birthday I took him to Edinburgh, planned and paid for every second (places he’s always wanted to go, comedians he’d wanted to see etc), for my 30th he bought me a jumper and took me (AND HIS DAD) to the zoo 😳😳

I regularly re-do places and things where I’ve had poor experiences with men - mini breaks hotel breaks lunches solo dates re buying/updating items I bought with a partner and donating or retiring the old item - or using it for/with someone I want to use it with. I retake photos - it’s incredibly restorative. It’s your story. Re-write it/redact them from it. 🌺🌺🌺

My ex-husb used sleep deprivation. I was working and going to school, so sleep was very precious. I was lucky to get 4-5 hours a night for years and he would disrupt my sleep the entire time. If I tried to take a nap on the weekend, he made sure it didn't happen. I was a zombie for years. I filed for divorce 4 days after college graduation.

Had 2 kids under 3 - husband wanted to go to happy hour the day before my birthday. He’d already been out at happy ”hour” once that week and another 2 times the week before. I asked him please no. I just want to hang with my family. He said he had an “errand” to run. I assumed buying me a present. He didn’t answer my calls or texts. Finally at 11pm I asked my mom to come over to babysit while I drove the route to his office to make sure he didn’t have an accident winding up in a ditch. He was at the bar across from the office. I should have left then.

My ex ruined every birthday- actually argued with me on my birthday that it wasn’t that date and how dare I expect “special” treatment. Refused to celebrate my graduation, ruined every holiday. The final straw was him screaming at me for 3 hours on mother’s day morning. After I left him and moved out “suddenly” holidays and birthdays were vitally important to him and demanded I spend them with him. I moved 3 hours away, started my life over. He demanded my birthday, thanksgiving, new years. he showed up at midnight on feb 14th begging me to open the door. Uhh no. Demanded to spend his birthday with me. I said no. Hes blocked on everything. He had the audacity to stalk my social media and be “happy” I was wearing a necklace on my birthday he claimed he bought for me - uh no - I paid for it.

If you have spoken to them about your expectations for holidays/ birthdays/anniversaries / celebrations then walk away when they show you that they don't take it seriously with you. The same men who complain about celebrating moments with you will go celebrate stupid holidays with his stupid friends/other women. Walk away. you're not losing nothing by walking away from a man who will not consider and celebrate you. You're just a placeholder until what he's waiting for arrives. If you refuse to leave then stop celebrating him. Go celebrate yourself alone. Take the trips with your friends. Go do the activities that interests you.
