What to say when you have to fire someone… Letting someone go is rarely an easy decision or conversation to have. Even when ultimately it’s the right thing to do. Before getting to this stage it’s essential that if you’re the manager you have done everything you can to allow the person the opportunity to succeed. This includes but is not limited to providing: 1️⃣ A comprehensive induction and onboarding process 2️⃣ Training 3️⃣ Regular constructive feedback on performance or behavioural concerns with clear goals & touch points to monitor progress over time 4️⃣ Coaching support to build capability 5️⃣ Clear articulation of the consequences if the necessary improvements don’t happen It’s also important that you follow your organisations procedures and processes for undertaking a formal process which could lead to someone’s employment being terminated.
