Why can’t it be 402? The 2nd hint says 614 - one number is correct but in the wrong place - so 6 is obviously out. But that doesn’t mean 4 can’t be in the place of 6… the rule or the hint doesn’t say that just coz 6 is out 4 can’t take its place…

We already know 2 is correct, so the other correct number is 0, which cannot be in the third position, meaning it has to be in the first position. 042 - the 6 is definitely not in the code. The 8 neither. So the 2 must be correct and in the right place. Then the 0 is the other number but it has to be first. That leaves the 4 in the wrong place, to go in the middle

it's 042 because 2 is in the correct place as you can guess from clue n°2 1 and 4. Then from clue n°3 you can guess 0 is the first number which means that the middle number is 4 because of clue n°2
