as a professional groomer I see random scabs on dogs all the time (I immediately let the owners know) if she plays outside at all that's how it happened. none of the tools used on her would cause nicks.

Having groomed my own animals, clippers have guards and if placed wrong they can nick. However, that looks like a puncture, not a nick. Even if she was jumping around it doesn’t seem like she would be able to get punctured by clippers due to how they’re made. Hot spots don’t tend to puncture look. Flea and tick preventative should work if given correctly so I doubt it’s that. Honestly, run something that sounds like clippers in her presence and see how she reacts. Accidents and incidents happen, so I’m glad you’re not jumping to conclusions, but it Might be your answer. Sending you both love, friend.

What type of dog and how old? My in laws have an American Eskimo and she gets scabs and wounds that are basically like cysts and the older she’s gotten the worse they’ve gotten.

Did she get into a fight with another dog at the groomer? That sounds more likely. Looks like she was bit and grabbed by another dog

so this happened to my dog earlier this summer. Hes a collie mix, so has a long coat, he's also a very oily boy. He went for his usually bath and blowout session. a couple days later I noticed a little spot like that on him and started checking the rest of his body and he had tiny little lumps that had pus draining out. I did research I cannot for the life of me remember what it's called. but he basically had some sort of bacteria on his skin that wasn't washed off completely and when they used the dryer it blew all over him. I ordered a shampoo off chewy, he got 2 baths a week for a couple weeks, after the first bath his skin felt so much better. I was freaking out to, from the research I did it's not transmittable from other dogs and it's his own body that created the bacteria.

Highly unlikely it was cut at the groomer, due to her hair type I doubt any clippers/shears were used in that area

Let’s see the scabs! Curious if it’s what I’ve been noticing on my regulars. The heat is causing a lot of moisture buildup with swimmers and skin issues everywhere, then sprinkle in the allergies. It’s great we love it

As someone who has worked at a grooming shop, that is not consistent with clipper nicks. I would definitely say puncture. Other dog at the groomers is what I am thinking. We always kept dogs separated. I would ask to keep your dog separate if they are not when there. Hope your baby heals quickly. 💜

As a seasoned dog owner and current professional groomer, this absolutely looks like a cyst that has burst. I'm concerned about a fungal infection from dirty/unsanitary dilution bottles. The other scabbing doesn't make much sense otherwise.

could it be from her collar / harness? I’m only asking because my girl doesn’t wear a collar because the first collar she ever had gave her a HUGE hotspot on her neck (the fur still hasn’t grown back) so we only use harnesses with plastic buckles

my grandma live out in the country and the dogs went to the neighbors yard and they shot them with pellet guns ;( and they had similar sores.. yes they went on their property but that’s how horrible people are.. i would innocently mention that she has some wounds and scabs and to be careful with her next time you go to the groomer! and see how they react and then check her when you pick her up!! switch groomers if she’s hurt again or if the vibes are off there!!

A slicker brush that doesn’t have those balls on the end can cause scratches. I’ve personally seen it happen and I’ve sliced myself with a slicker brush. If groomers don’t sanitize their brushes after every dog it can cause infected cuts, the dog then bothers the cuts, and then abscesses form or even “punctures” from where the dog’s own nail rips open a cut. I refuse to use slickers on my dog, only a metal comb that can be fully sanitized and angled properly, slickers have the plastic pad that allows movement and can harbor bacteria inside. I would try to find a groomer that you can stipulate what kind of brush they use because they will all say their cleaning practices are top notch when they aren’t. I do worry that the scabs on her neck are a bite that healed well and the side is one that didn’t. I have also seen dogs injure dogs who are laying down in a crate from the outside but that could only suggest one injury. Some groomers “tie down” dogs on a floor tie instead of a crate if they’re out of space which means they’re in open space and open to another dog coming up and starting something. Lots of things could have happened tbh.. I recommend the mobile groomers or small shops, not big corporate ones. I hope your baby heals quickly 🩵

Indie gets these sometimes, a couple have gotten huge and infected. They can be from anything especially with how hot and humid it is and just from playing outside at all, if the groomer nicked her they should be telling you

I’d ask the groomer if they used any new products. Some shampoos have cause pustules that scab up, usually down the spine but can be all over. As for the wound, I immediately assumed puncture so I’d ask if she was with other dogs. Mid-side isn’t a common “bite spot” which is odd.

I honestly don't trust leaving my dog anywhere- check if there's mobile groomers where they can come to your house. Too many horror stories of dogs getting injured or worse.

As a groomer, I doubt the wound is initially caused by the grooming itself. It may have been a cyst that was forming and grooming irritated it, or it may have been a spot that she started worrying after grooming. As for the scabs, how big are the scabs?

Brush burn can happen when the groomer brushes too much in the same area. If the groomer keeps the dog in cages during the groom at all and they jump around, the cage can cause puncture wounds. This is why I became a one-on-one groomer.
