@betseyjbrooks: ๐ฅ Hot take: Iโm not a fan of estrogen patches. Not because Iโm anti-estrogen. Quite the opposite. I think estrogen is incredibly important. My problem is precision. Two women can wear the exact same patch and have very different absorption. Yet somehow weโve decided that putting a standardized dose on someoneโs skin means we know what her body is actually receiving. And hereโs the part that really gets me: Many providers prescribing these patches arenโt checking estradiol levels at all. โTreat the symptoms, not the number.โ Symptoms matter. Absolutely. But if weโre talking about hormone replacement as something that affects bone, brain, muscle, sexual health, and overall physiology, I want more information than โwell, your hot flashes stopped.โ Labs arenโt the entire story. But neither are symptoms. Hormone optimization should be about putting the two togetherโand actually asking whether the therapy is accomplishing what we intended it to accomplish. Being on HRT and being hormonally optimized are not necessarily the same thing. And yesโฆ I know the comments are going to be fun on this one. ๐ #HRT #HormoneReplacementTherapy #Menopause #Perimenopause #Estrogen

But Oral route varies too, no? Depends on liver health, gut health, and what else?

I was on for two weeks and started to feel a weird sensation below my rib on the right side. Maybe gallbladder? And my kidneys were hurting. Progesterone 14 days on 14 days off. Iโm out of town but checking with my Dr when I get back. I have been way more physically active so I feel like I have been producing more estrogen. But idk that is just my take.

I hate estrogen patches bc my skin hates them and I despise cleaning the sticky stuff off every week. Iโd rather just inject.

I have noticed a difference in my symptoms when using patches manufactured by different drug companies. I donโt think they all release the same.

But how do you check "under the hood" if woman's hormones fluctuate so much depending on day, week, etc?

What do you do if you are on the highest dose of the patch, estrogen levels were good, but still suffering from hot flashes ๐ข

My doctor put me on progesterone 200 mg for nightsweats but nothing else because she said I didnโt have an estrogen problem since I have a normal period, regardless of a ton of other symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, hair shedding, etc. 3 months in and now I havenโt had a period in a month and the vivid dreams, fatigue and exhaustion along with zero libido are still here. Ugh

The mainstream guidance to not check labs is absolutely wild. I know my labs and so does my dr. We replace per labs AND how I feel.

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm on the patch and I get blood work every 3 months by my doctor, and the patch has been life-changing for me and amazing. Also I don't have to worry about what blood clot risk from taking it orally.

What is your suggestion for women that can not take progesterone?
I have my uterus and can not tolerate progesterone at all.

As someone who used the ortho-evera patches for years & almost died from the side effects, transdermal medicine is something I'm highly skeptical of. Really still finding my way through menopause holistically, but so far I've been fairly successful with vegan proteins, collagen, bone broth & most recently changed my night work schedule back to days for optimal sleep regulation. I'd love to find a professional like you in my area, but I have no clue where to begin. I should have made an appointment with you for my time here on island lol

Told 0.1 mg is the highest you can wear yet I get no relief unless I wear an additional one at 0.5 to 0.1 for a total of 2 patches.

I h8 the patch. my older skin is getting too thin. it tears and irritates it. switched to 1.10 gel daily packets I rub in. I feel better and dise is better than 1.0 patch.

Do you recommend gel or cream instead of patch? Or just making sure to test with the patch?
