the ussr granted women legal rights that were ahead of many Western countries, including equal legal status, easier divorce, universal suffrage, and paid maternity leave which had a demonstration affect that showed rapid change like that was possible. the ussr is historically known for pressuring the u.s. to catch up with it in welfare, worker rights, and reform with to counter the appeal of communism since america feared communism and it had much more influence even in the u.s.
