@nbcnewyork: The Perseid meteor shower is considered one of the best of the year, and it peaks Wednesday night. It’s called the Perseid meteor shower because the meteors radiate from the constellation Perseus, which rises in the northeastern sky late in the evening – around 11 p.m. Perseus will make an arch through the northern sky overnight, so best viewing will be after midnight to sunrise on Thursday, when Perseus is high in the northern sky. If you’re not able to catch the meteor shower Wednesday night, you’ll have other opportunities. The Perseids are actually visible all the way through Aug. 23. They’ll just be less active each night past the peak on August 12-13.
