It’s called moral justification through devaluation. They mistreat you, then gradually convince themselves that you’re difficult, unworthy, undeserving or somehow the problem — because devaluing you makes it easier for them to justify violating you without confronting their own guilt. The hatred doesn’t come before the abuse. They gradually manufacture the hatred to morally excuse the abuse.
