4th amendment right you don't have to identify yourself until the declare what law you broke. That is why most agencies policy is to "officer identifies themselves, then says why you've been stopped, then ask for you identification, registration, insurance."

With the exception of Ohio which recently passed a law that police officers can obtain anyone’s ID absent of any crime whenever they want to, cops cannot obtain your ID absent of any crimes unless you are under arrest for a crime. They can ask you for your ID but you can also deny it if you’re not suspected of committing a crime. And they can’t use failure to ID or obstruction as a crime. Those are secondary charges. They have to have a primary criminal charge like robbery or something like that

CITIZEN IS LEGALLY INCORRECT. In most states Police need a legal reason to conduct a traffic stop, but generally don’t have to tell you that reason before demanding you provide your license. As the driver, you’re still required to identify yourself. Before commenting, look up the laws on traffic stop and ID..
