My chronic pain is due to pancreatitis and the pain clinic decided this is the best option because less constipation that I’m going up 10 mg every 28 days and it doesn’t feel like it’s helping anymore

Sooo my pain wasnt being controlled by Oxycodone IR 7.5 ×5 and ER was tried but due to gastric bypass ER didnt work. So I was prescribed the patch in addition to the Oxy. First few months 5mg patch it helped actually. I noticed the Oxy less effective but that was ok cause the patch legit helped. After few months pain started coming back. Over several months did increases in patch to 7. 5 to 10 and finally 15. Each time I got no relief from the patch but each time it dulled the oxy more and more. By 15mg patch I got no relief from the patch and it completely blocked the oxy so I was in terrible pain all around. I ended up having to find a new pain management cause they refused to stop the patch and increase the oxy. One last thing ill add in spite of being told id face no withdrawals, stopping the patch cold turkey put me into severe withdrawals after about 5 days. Two full weeks of them, brutal. Sorry so long. Everyone's different but this was my experience.

Yes I was moved to buprenorphine patch due Washington state and given tramadol, didn't work, I switched PM doctors and they gave me buprenorphine only pills and that did worked. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. Yes traditional opiods worked better.

I was not on traditional opioids for very long-around four 5/325mg for 10 months. The pills made me feel kinda sick, although I did get used to them after awhile. Problem was they made me tired and I wouldn’t take them at work. I switched to the Butrans patch last week after stopping the oral meds for 2 weeks on my own. My MD prescribed 10mcg patch and it’s been very helpful. It took about 3 days to notice anything. I haven’t needed any oral pain meds so far! The switch was my choice and I am grateful to have a switch.

Patches absolutely miserable and they didn’t help with Pain like the gentleman says above they brought the shit out of your teeth after so much but they don’t work for Pain not whatsoever..scam

I'm being told ill have my methadone + pain pump im scared im hoping I do get to do this using methadone for the breakthrough my dr said hes fine with it wont know till October unfortunately thst one u saying didn't work at all for me then been on methadone every since

I am getting both. Pills were not strong enough so dr added the patch. It has helped but not strong enough. Only been on 6 weeks.

They took me off Hydro 10's to Belbuca and it put me immediately into withdrawals, didn't help at all and ate up the inside of my jaw. Nothing for breakthrough pain. I switched pain mgmts.

There’s a difference between buprenorphone and Suboxone. Buprenorphone does not contain the agonist Naloxone so you can take a traditional opioid along with it. However, Suboxone does contain naloxone and does prevent the opioids from being absorbed. I was prescribed bupe along with my traditional opioids and it did nothing at all for me.

I took the patch with Norco for breakthrough. It lowered my seizure medication threshold so I started having seizures daily caused by my TBI. So I was taken off the patch and was placed back on my opioid only. The use of both was not sufficient to control my pain.

I was switched from tramadol to the buprenorphine patch to the buprenorphine dissolvable pill back to hydrocodone. The patch did not work at all, they were weak and irritated my skin and fell off way too soon. I suffered all the time. So the switched to the buprenorphine pill. Those were God awful, they were very strong for pain but if I didn't take them at the same time everyday I'd start going into withdrawal and get sick almost immediately. I felt terrible all the time. I eventually just switched to hydrocodone and I'm happy with it.

The patch helped with the stuff joints in the morning and the aching parts and I was on oxycodone 15 mg 4 times a day. My pain doctor said he likes it to help with the aching and stiffness of the body. And the oxy for the real big pain of my back and female issues.

I only get the B patch and I am about 98% it does not work at all and I have told pain management that my break through pain is miserable and they will not add anything else. And the b patch makes my skin so irritated that on day 3 of having the patch on I am crying because of the itching. But I will keep being delusional and keep being compliant with trying to help myself and go to pain management and hope one day they will do something else.

I was put on the Butrans patch and given Dilaudid every 4 hours for break through pain. 4 mg of Dilaudid, by the way. It did not work for me at all. Particularly the Dilaudid. I kept telling them I didn't think the meds were working, especially the break through pain med. They acted like I was the problem, and seeking. Then a nurse told me: yeah, Bupe is known for that. It makes regular opioids less effective. 😳 He then explained why. Mind you, I was on 10 mg of Oxycontin and 10 mg of Oxycodone for years before, and it worked pretty well. I started having more pain, so they switched to this. My pain went CRAZY. Increased pain, increased ER visits and hospitalizations for pain control. I'm now back on Oxycontin, at 2O mg though, on the suggestion by my pain pharmacist when I finally said: hey, this patch isn't working at all, I'm not doing this anymore. So it was Oxy with the Dilaudid. that was A LOT of pain meds. I asked to be switched back to oxycodone, and even went back to 10 mg, when the equivalent to the Dilaudid would've been 20 mg. I was like, no. I want to be able to have stronger stuff if I need it in 20 years. I was switched to Bupe, because they were pushing Suboxone, and I flat out refused. They offered Bupe, and tried to hide that it was the same pain med in Suboxone. I knew the truth though. It was horribly ineffective at controlling my pain, made the Dilaudid not touch my pain either, and when I switched back to Oxy, the withdrawal was AWFUL! Worse than full agonist opioids. I hate Bupe! I tried Suboxone once, it was awful as well.

So the buprenorphine patch is a partial agonist opioid. It basically “cancels out” any full agonist opioid like hydrocodone or oxycodone. Sometimes doctors will prescribe them together as a placebo. You also won’t ever get a “high” feeling taking the buprenorphine. I was on the buprenorphine patch for over 5 years and really didn’t do much to help my pain. Maybe half a point to 1 point in pain reduction. It also made my body feel like trash and made me angrier and kind of aggressive. When I finally got off of it I was in pain still but my body felt better.

I’m not on the Pat. I’m on the oral buprenorphine twice a day and also hydrocodone throughout the day.. I think it may help some, but not as well as the hydrocodone, but I’ve been on it for almost a year and I’m too afraid to switch it so I guess it is working to a certain extent. I’m more of right now because my pain management doctor just sprung that he’s retiring and I’m more worried of going to a new doctor and having to start all over if they’re gonna give me the same meds or not.. anyway I hope this helps.

When I was first moved here to PA I waited 6 months to see PM when I got to sit down and talk with him to see what we could do he informed me he only prescribed the buprenorphine patch, and he puts all of his patients on it and I still don’t know why I asked this but I’m so glad I did. I asked him what was the diagnosis code he used to prescribe that patch and he told me SUD : substance use disorder my jaw was on the floor he was labeling chronic pain patients with SUD and then I found out basically the way his pain management office was running. He was moonlighting as pain management, but he really was a medicated assistant treatment program because he used the veterans affair prescribing guidelines. I’ll be honest I ran from that office.
