Teaching strategy for class and self-improvement. I’m sure many teachers do this but I like to put such reflections into words, in case you have done the same and relate to it, or haven’t thought about it in this way before! This could be considered “scaffolding”. You develop a sense of familiarity with a concept by giving yourself a new challenge with it. You could also think of it as breaking a bigger challenge down into more digestible steps. I would also add that part of this is seeing the concept in a new context which also helps us find new avenues of understanding. I use this when teaching and it’s something you should also consider when learning by yourself! Any topic can be demystified when we practice it enough. And I’m not making it hard just for the sake of being hard. Instead, I take something that could be difficult without being broken down into steps and use previous knowledge to motivate learners.
