@preschoolvibes: I get a lot of questions about how I run free choice center time. With a half day preschool, I want free choice centers to be the longest block of our day. I do not have a separate math or literacy block. My letter table is part of center time. I encourage students to visit it at least once during the week, but I do not keep track. In January, when I explicitly teach numbers, I switch the letter table to a number table. Students can move freely throughout the room and choose the centers that interest them. Their biggest responsibility is cleaning up before moving to something new. That means not every child will visit every center, and I am completely okay with that. The majority of learning in preschool happens through play. I use small groups and large group time for more explicit teaching.
