My maintenance is 1800, I’ve eaten at 1200 with measuring portions on a food scale every day for nine days and I’m still up .5 from my low nine days ago. Eventually, even water weight in other fluctuation should shake out and the loss should be there? When is too long?

I got back from vacation yesterday and somehow gained 6 pounds in 2 weeks...while tracking calories. Yes, I ate more than I normally do, but not 20k calories more. I feel so depressed. I'm trying to not freak out, but it's hard.

I have to see that new low like 3 times before I count it as “real” haha

Due to my cycle right after hitting a new low, I fluctuated 3lbs for 2.5 weeks then hit another new low today. It’s sooo frustrating since I’m 2.5lbs away from my goal. Non scale victory though? I stayed strong and did not let the scale derail me. That part is so new to me but I’m losing the weight for the last damn time!

How often do you recommend weighing in? Weekly, daily monthly?

I love the rate of progress formula! I've lost 50 pounds in 36 weeks so that equals 1.38 pounds lost per week! My goal is to lose 100 pounds, so I am halfway there.

This is the first time I have had the woosh effect explained like this and it immediately made me feel better. Hearing that the body will often retain a bunch of water right before another fat loss is so comforting to know

The scale genuinely matters less than what your body is doing.🫣 It took me 2 weeks to go from 205 to 203, but the way EVERYTHING fit me changed in a good way. 203 to 196 the changes are extremely minimal, even though the scale is down almost 10lbs. The scale is not necessarily your friend y'all!

I thought I wasn't losing anything but when I graph it, I'm actually consistently losing 1lb every couple of weeks! you just can't see the pattern when you look at one measurement at a time 😊

What are a few of the mechanisms that cause this flux? is it really all water? or are there other forms of weight that cause these fluctuations?

I believe it’s 100% but what’s funny is this is the first time that I’m locked in and not cheating at all and I’m tracking everything in the scale has moved down every single day for the last two weeks even if it’s just .1 it’s going down it’s never went back up.

I needed to hear this today. I’m on my 8th month of a calorie deficit. I’ve lost 35.5 lbs and I relate to the zig zag scale story. I was .3 away from my first goal, the very next day, up 1.5. Next day, down .5, and now I’m on day 2 of being stuck on that weight. I listened to this video more than once.

Yep, I was always weighing on my highest week day when I was tracking daily. I've learned so much since weighing daily.

Thank you this is reinforcing what I’ve learned about my scale story and it’s very comforting to hear someone explain that. Thank you!

The difficult part is I feel like my body’s ‘story’ changes as my weight changes. When I first started it was dropping pretty consistently and occasional stall and swoosh. After losing 13kgs it’s now a ‘no movement for 4-5 weeks’, then drop 1kg-1.5kg during my period. It then settles in the new low and I won’t see another drop until 4-5 weeks on my period again. Any other girls like that? A bit frustrating

I’m disabled and am not able to stand on a scale. I’ve been on a weight loss journey for 13 months. My loss is determined solely on mathematics (calories in calories out) ,non scale victories and physical changes. It has made it less frustrating for sure!

I tend to have the “woosh” quite often. I’ll hit a low, then jump up and down for a few days/a week, then another woosh, so on and so forth.
