@sue.oconnell.nbcboston: Lindsay Clancy was not ignored by the mental health system. She had doctors, medication, hospitalization and psychiatric care. What the trial has exposed is something different: fragmented care, incomplete information and no single coordinated team holding the whole picture. That raises a question bigger than this verdict: what happens when a patient in a psychiatric crisis is also expected to help connect the dots in her own treatment? The jury will decide Lindsay Clancy’s criminal responsibility. But the cracks in the system are already visible. #LindsayClancy #ClancyTrial #PostpartumMentalHealth #MentalHealthCare #TrueCrime
Devils advocate...... Don't most doctor's visits begin with "...what medications are you currently on" before prescribing new meds 🤷♀️

As a therapist, I believe I am qualified to say this: yes, the mental health/healthcare system failed Lindsay. But also….it fails everyone

You need a family member to manage your care when you’re dealing with behavioral or psychiatric issues. Her husband failed.

I’ll stand 10 toes down that I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for my husband taking over as my medical advocate while I suffered ppd. My case was very similar to hers. The difference is I had a husband who gave a shit about the future outcome of our family

She was a nurse who understood the medical system and knew how to advocate for herself. She also had resources, support, and people around her. We can acknowledge mental illness and the challenges she faced without using them to excuse every decision or remove all personal responsibility. There has to be a point where we recognize both the illness and the choices that were made.

I’m from uk I think its absolutely wild MH patients in USA are treated and managed this way. You need a universal system to share and communicate patient records under a mental health act/law to protect themselves and others from harm. It would also flag any negligence amongst professionals and clinics in the distribution of medicines and diagnosis and what is determined by best practice. Whist we are all somewhat responsible for our own health. A person in MH crisis is in no fit state to be case managing themselves especially when children are involved that’s just crazy 🤪

we need more options. women shouldn't have to fear losing their children seeking help.

It’s because she’s a high achieving, highly intelligent upper middle class woman. No one takes your MH that seriously when you don’t have a lower socioeconomic profile

You nailed this! Lindsay is in the midst of a mental health crisis trying to parent her children and navigate her own treatment! She was desperately fighting for help. This tragedy was avoidable.

Let’s also remember the fact that she is a registered nurse. She understands how these medication’s work and how they’re supposed to be taken even through depression.. She needs to take accountability at some point for her actions.

None of them spoke to each other. No collaboration. No POC. I work in mental health, mass bh/mh failed here. The notes are junk, none of them know each other, there was no system meetings.
