My financial advisor recommended the renting is OK until you get your debts paid off. You don’t wanna get into a house and be House poor so don’t always believe you have to rush into buying a house even into my mid 30s. It was OK to get your debt paid off and then get ready to buy a house when you were financially ready. Don’t rush because of other people.

Buying a home isn’t necessarily rich. If you move around a lot and want to experience different places to live, you lose money in transaction costs if you but. Any decent financial person knows a home is a very low quality asset. You buy because you want to. A home is a liability.

Renting isn’t a poor person’s thing at all. If something breaks, you’re not on the hook to fix it. In some states, renting is cheaper than owning. Some state’s housing markets (like WI) right now are brutal.

For tax reasons, we need to buy new cars; otherwise, the IRS will take that money. Instead of paying a few hundred thousand to the IRS, we buy cars every year so we can have a tax break.

Renting is not a poor mindset. If someone has $50 million and can rent a place that’s only gonna cost them 20,000 a month. They can utilize the vast majority of their money towards things that will make money for them. Owning a home is not an asset. It is a long-term liability.
