10 milion homes in japan are empty and abandoned and they give some of them for free (because there is no one left to inherit them), and some are sold for a couple thousand euros. One foreigner showed on tiktok how his legal fees were 4000€ for a "0€ home" he "bought". Also, it is not just rural areas, there are some near large and populated cities, there must be ways to connect these people to the right lawyers that maybe would out of compassion do the legal work for them for free so they could get sheltered from the streets.
