First I really want to emphasise that this is not a judgement on any parent or carer who gives these snacks to their kids, I give them to my kids sometimes! Especially when trying to do a supermarket shop with my 3yo and he sees all the coloured cartoon looking boxes and starts hounding me for them (which is exactly what the food companies want to happen!), I end up giving in to just get out of the shop! So the point of this video is to call out the companies that make these products for marketing them in ways that imply they’re healthy options. All parents and carers want to make sure they are giving their babies and toddlers the best food possible but this is difficult when food companies use persuasive on-pack marketing to make their products sound healthier and more nutritious than they really are. A lot of money has gone into crafting this packaging to appeal to parents’ desire to provide healthy and nutritious food for their children. BUT We need to realise that this marketing is created for one goal only: to persuade parents to buy their products in order to increase profits. Looking at the Piccolo Fruit Sticks - By featuring fruit images on the pack, companies signal to parents that their products contain nutritious, wholesome ingredients. BUT the reality is that there’s no real fruit in this product, only pastes, puree, juice and concentrates. These ingredients are high in sugar and do not contain the same nutrition as whole fruits. In fact this product is 63% sugar! That’s as much as marshmallows! But at least we know what we’re giving our kids when we give them marshmallows.... that’s my whole point of this reel. This product would be classified as confectionary according to World Health Organisation standards, and yet these companies are allowed to market them to us as if they are health foods! What do you think? 👇❤️ #foodlabels #misleadinglabels
