@thinkdf: Neil deGrasse Tyson hits the nail on the head regarding the reality of human history. For tens of thousands of years, living naturally—organic food, clean air, pure water—left humans lucky to reach their thirties. It wasn't until modern science and medicine stepped in that the needle actually moved on longevity. While the debate over health trends continues, the data paints a clear picture: scientific advancement is the primary reason we aren't living short, brutal lives. A heavy truth about progress and why science ultimately outweighs lifestyle trends. #NeilDeGrasseTyson #HasanMinhaj #ScienceMatters #LifeExpectancy #HealthFacts

Jeraldinho Jeraldinho :
Well but the increase in life expectancy is less due to medical sciences, than to the other numerous sciences that have come improve, infrastructure, like in fat better housing, air conditioning, refrigeration, improved hygiene, better communication technology, better cleanliness, better, cleaner purer drinking water, better easier job mechanisms, better work life balance, less strain, more white collar jobs, better transportation infrastructure, better free time activities, better and longer vacations, because it is all these that have made the human overall less ill, less tired and less warn out. Medical sciences comes at the tail end of all the reasons of the overall improvement in the lives and in the longevity of life on earth.

Sanitation was the big leap forward in life expectancy. Washing hands, better sewage treatment, pasteurizing milk, boiling water, using soap and other means to disinfect, and so on.

He forgot to mention early humans died of infections, animal attacks, accidents and fighting other tribes. He mentions that organics and clean water didn’t make a difference. Kinda, but misleading. It didn’t in the sense that death came due to other means besides food supply and quality problems. So, eating well didn’t matter. He’s right. We live longer due to science. DESPITE the problems with food and water quality.

Common Neil, not all science is good science, done for the benefit of man. Organic can be a good consideration if it is backed by honesty and done with good science in mind as well.
