Creating a mineral site for your deer is quick and easy and can benefit your herd throughout the year! Follow these 4 steps to start providing needed minerals to your deer today! 1. You need to find a high traffic area that the deer are already using. Look for shady areas near water and avoid areas next to deer feeders as the deer can get their minerals from a quality deer feed such as our 20% Premium Protien Pellets and minerals sites in these cases won’t see as much use! Clay based soils work best! We recommend about 1 mineral site per 50 acres to ensure adequate coverage because during the hot summer months deer won’t travel far staying close to food and water and you want them to be able to use these sites especially during the antler growing and fawn rearing months! 2. Dig a hole! Dig an area about 8-10 inches in depth and about two foot across! You want to have a depression that will hold water after a rain as it will aid the mineral in absorbing into the soil and also help with the bitterness as dicalcium phosphate is bitter in nature! 3. Pour the mineral into the hole! For new sites use the entire 25lb bag! For already established sites that need to be refreshed you can use half the bag in those! 4. Mix it up! Take your shovel and mix the mineral with the dirt using some of the dirt from your spoil pile. Pro Tip: Top off the mineral site with some Corn Spike to add to the attraction! #deer #mineral #fyp
